Commit to Submit Your Innovation

Posted by: Sally Ann Lake

Do you have an idea that could change the way we look at health care at Northwell Health, but have no time to think it through? We asked a few Innovation Challenge team submitters how they got through the what may seem like a laborious process.

“The process of filling out the submission form enhanced my project plan by at least 25%. By answering questions such as ‘Have you taken any steps to validate your product?’ and ‘What development risk still exists?’ allowed me and my team to feel confident in our research, “ says Tracy Andriano, case manager for workforce safety.

An innovative way to transfer patients who are unable to walk themselves, a concierge service for post acute care with customized design for a rehabilitating patient, and a new way to keep tubing and lines from dangling from beds and other hospital equipment are just three of the dozens of entries coming through the Innovation Challenge submission portal.

When asked about a product/service development plan or roadmap for the future, one team was able to think through their next steps of developing a prototype.

“Submitting your innovation through Innovation.Northwell.edu takes a bit of time and some thought through solutions – a small price to pay for a half million dollar investment from Northwell Health,” says Patrick McCarthy, physical therapist and certified diabetes educator.

“Innovations don’t happen overnight. You have to listen, write, work, persist, and repeat,” says Kevin Tracey, EVP for the Feinstein Institute of Research.

What are you waiting for? You have until July 10 to submit your idea at Innovation.Northewll.edu
